Patient
is a
76-year-old
woman
who
received
angioplasty
procedure
two
years
ago |
However, during the
procedure she
suffered a mild
stroke. Patient’s
family noticed her
unusual behavior and
was told belatedly
about Patient’s
stroke. She
received no
rehabilitation
therapy. Patient
had been a very
active, professional
businesswoman prior
to her retirement.
Before starting the
Cognitive Systems
System she
would:
-
Stared placidly
into space with
little recognition
of events around
her
-
Seemed confused
and was very
forgetful due to
her short-term
memory loss
-
Resisted going out
in public
-
Kept reflecting
back to better
times when she was
able to do
complicated tasks
-
Unable to enjoy
life, as she
couldn’t even
remember people
she had just met
and spent some
time with.
-
After 2 ½ months
of therapy,
Patient’s husband
informed us that
they were
discontinuing the
therapy program
because he and
Patient were
taking a 2-month
vacation that he
thought they would
never be able to
do again. Patient
herself stated, “I
know I’m getting
better because I
feel it and can
remember when I do
things and how I
did them.” She
had completed a
new cognitive
exercise with a
high performance
score, even though
several people
were having a
conversation
behind her that
previously would
have distracted
her.
-
Therapy was
subsequently
discontinued as
patient was making
good progress on
her own and has
been too busy to
spend much time on
the System.
